On the road again.

So miracles sometimes do happen, and revised and resubmitted proposals sometimes do get funded :)

This means I'm traveling again.

I doubt anyone is still checking this blog with any regularity anymore; this makes sense, since I'd tell you if I was heading off on another big Euro trip any time soon. (Oh hey -- I'll likely be heading off on another big Euro trip soon, although no dates or destinations are set in concrete yet. I'll keep you posted.) But this blog is for me too, and I've liked having this record of my dissertation travels.

This week I'm visiting the anthropology department at Washington University in St. Louis, MO. Dr. Trinkaus has a wonderful collection of fossil casts and he's been kind enough to let me photograph the ones I want. I don't really have any exciting traveling tales to write about since getting here just involved a 3 hr drive in my own car (no 35 hr train ride), and I can't really complain about all the heavy stuff I had to carry because, honestly, I only had to lift the ShapeCam in and out of my trunk (and I only had to do this once so far). I also can't complain about any loneliness since I've been
able to hang out with my friend Herman, who dug with me at Dmanisi and just got hired here as an Assistant Professor in the anthro department.

However, I did start the week off gloriously by locking my car keys in my trunk along with the camera.

I haven't taken any (non-research related) photos on this trip yet, but here's a shot of the outside of McMillan Hall (taken last Fall). Ths is where the anthropologists live:

Update: I promised Herr Herman his place of honour on the bugablog, so here he is, just about to open up a bottle of (unfortunately undrinkable) Georgian wine:

(Don't worry. As you can see from the photo, he had another.)

Gaumarjos!

I just went through a list of my friends' blogs and found that you're back on the research trail. Good luck!

Hey! You guys are fast with the blog-checking and the comment-posting! Thanks!

I'm back already. Four days and it's all done. Everything went really well, too.

People are super nice over there at Wash U!! (And lots of them are coming in next week for MPIG.)
